Derivative Source: New News #2's theme in June sought to discover the new in derived works, works created in response to original sources, or works that have informed or contributed to derivations. As always, the theme is a prompt and is open to interpretation by the artists themselves.

Ben Mirov

Ben has writing in, or forthcoming from: Did I Shit Me (I & II), The Agriculture Reader, Lungfull!, Absent, Verse Daily, The Best American Poetry Blog, Noo Journal, We Are Champion and Sixth Finch. He is the author of Collected Ghost (H_NGM_N, 2009), I is to Vorticism (New Michigan Press, 2010) and Ghost Machine (Caketrain Press, 2010). He is general editor of pax americana. Martin Rock

Martin is a graduate of New York University's MFA program, where he was a recipient of the St. Marys and Starworks fellowships. His poems appear or are forthcoming in Diagram, Sixth Finch, Tuesday; an Art Project, Mississippi Review Online, At-Large Magazine, and others. His collaborative chapbook, Fish, You Bird was published this year by Pilot Books and is available at www.pilotpoetry.com. In his free time he translates Japanese poetry, breathes underwater, and plays on mountains.

Brigid Ochshorn

Brigid goes by the alias of Ant Parade on musical occasions, and helps to promote and support local artists by combining the forces of radio hub WMNF 88.5 fm and Cafe Hey downtown in a local monthly music series. She is also a writer of poetry, comedy, non-fiction, and other tales.

S2K

S2K likes to mess around with things that can be heard, felt and seen, even when people directly tell him to stop. He lives pretty close to the Jan Platt Library, in Tampa, Florida, and hopes to have something to share at this event when the time comes.

Bradley Kokay

Brad is an artist who works in a number of mediums, utilizing the performative element of painting as one of them. He has a BFA from USF and got an A on his art thesis. His work can be seen at Electric Voodoo Tattoos in St. Pete, and he will take part in an upcoming group show at Cafe Bohemia @ 937 Central Avenue. in St. Pete, FL on July 19,2010.

Trillionaire Brothers (Nathan Fernandez, David Fernandez, Ben Wax, Teresa Lamb)

The Trillionaire Brothers are an inevitable product of crossing the Millionaire Mom with the Mega-Dad. They ironically consist of three boys and a girl, only two of whom are actual blood relatives. Scientifically proven to be the trillest thing ever created, they strive to produce content that they find interesting, and the heck with the rest of you.

Barbara Browning

Barbara teaches in the Department of Performance Studies at Tisch School of the Arts, NYU. She is the author of two academic books, and her novel, The Correspondence Artist, is coming out in February. Minna Harri

Minna is a choreographer currently based in San Francisco. She has lived in Amsterdam and is originally from Helsinki,

. In addition to studies in ballet, Butoh, contemporary modern dance techniques, flamenco, tango, and singing, she has studied Performance and Theory in the Finnish Theater Academy. Autumn Widdoes

Her play “Lame City” is situated in a call center and explores the lives of two early 30-something co-workers as they deal with life and the effects of working in a corporate culture.
Sahar Zahra Faghih is an actress. She is playing the role of Worker A. in "Lame City."
By day she is also a Pediatrician and recently finished her residency at USF.

Martin Rock

Martin Rock's poems appear or are forthcoming in Diagram, Tueseday: an Art Project, Mississippi Review Online, and a number of other journals. Christen Petitt

Christen Petitt has worked as an actor, director, AD, stage manager, ASM, and costumer in the Shimberg Playhouse since 1995. She is also the Group Services Manager of the Straz Center, serves on the Board of Directors of the Jobsite Theater, and chairs the annual Jobsite Fundraiser. She directed The House of Yes, and wrote and directed Suck You Bye, as part of the Jobsite Theater's Job-side Project Series. She is currently writing a full length comedy (at least she thinks it's hilarious). Christen has also designed costumes for the Gorilla Theater production of Bug, and the Jobsite Theater's This is How it Goes and Bondage. She also created some lovely fake organs and gallons of blood for Gorilla's Rag and Bone. She has previously appeared in such TBPAC productions as The History of the Devil, Lysistrata, Maxwell: A New Rock Musical, The Tibetan Book of the Dead, The Serpent, 15 Minute Hamlet, A Dream Play, The Rocky Horror Show, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, and Night of the Living Dead. Christen's work pushes against the boundaries of the obscene in efforts to unearth an (un)common humanity among us all. Chapel Perilous is Christen's first full-length play.

Autumn Widdoes with Zachary Granger Moldof (sonic composition) and Jim! Ball (video)

Autumn Widdoes is a writer and hybrid-theater/performance artist whose work explores the intersection between written/spoken language and movement/dance. Autumn wrote Echoes {1928/2005} Through, a performance piece that explores eternal recurrence,collective and personal memory and two interconnected events in time and which was staged at Dixon Place (NYC) and was also a finalist for the Lark Playwrights' Week 2009. She has developed other work through The Field's FAR Space Residency Grant and has shown or performed in work at Dixon Place, the Brick Theater, Bowery Poetry Club, Galapagos, AUNTS is Dance, Inbred-Hybrid Collective, WAXworks @ Triskelion Arts Center, the 2009 Movement Research Festival (with AUNTS), the &Now Festival of Innovative Art & Literature (Buffalo, NY), The Poetry Cafe of the Poetry Society (London, UK) and Subterranean Arthouse (San Francisco, CA). She has an MA in Performance Studies from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

Zachary Granger Moldof

Zachary Granger Moldof is a composer/performer from Weston, Florida. His approach blends stylings from many musical disciplines most notably those of John Cage, Brian Eno, Can, Hindustani Classical, Anticon, Hip Hop, Phonography, anything peculiar, and The American Minimalists. His works employ the qualities of sound through many iterations: temporally meter action-based compositions, freestyle rap battles, collaged field recordings, Kraturock inspired instrumental works, et al. He is concerned foremost with sounds themselves, and seeks to create opportunies for an audience to experience a wide range of sounds that is never intrusive and always conducive to the realizations possible through listening. He has an MA in Performance Studies from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

Jim! Ball

Jim! Ball has been working in theater and film in New York City for ten years. He is currently pursuing a PhD. in Performance Studies from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

New News is a literary and performance series for new work or older work in a new context. It is set to begin in April to celebrate and coincide with National Poetry Month. The series brings together writers, poets, playwrights, performance artists and any hybrid artists whose work is literary and performance driven.

It is open to the general public.
